A New Yorker On Guns

Take a few minutes to watch the video posted below. It's a young lady from New York discussing her views on gun control.

That's why Bloomie the Hut is spending (or threatening to spend) lots of money in fly-over country to change our laws; our culture is an inclusive one. You don't have to be born into it, you just have to understand it and accept it. You don't even have to be a part of our culture, you just have to show a certain amount of respect (such as not attempting to destroy it) and likely you'll get as much if not more respect in return (though we will make fun of you if you wear socks with your sandals - that's just the way it is). But if you accept our norms and our values and try to emulate them to some degree then you're no longer an outsider, you're one of us.

Of course there is a secret handshake, and decoder rings, but we only discuss that amongst ourselves.

That is why laws prohibiting transfers are a staple of most of the gun owner control packages we've seen this year; they want us to stop spreading our values and way of life. A culture is much harder to eradicate if it's continually growing ya know.

This young lady made a conversion despite her environment and upbringing trying damn hard to point her in the opposite direction. She had to work past some irrational fear, but ultimately logic prevailed and she makes as good a case as any about the usefulness of firearms for self defense. It didn't take her getting mugged or attacked, she just thought about things.

Now, hopefully she'll be making plans to evacuate to a free state, where owning a gun isn't nearly as burdensome and carrying one isn't as legally perilous.

Maryland, not NY. But that argument would be just as valid in NY.

She said she grew up in NY, and followed with "here we are just not used to...". How do you get "Maryland" from that?
