Bitter has a post about a gruesome crime. A 23 year old lady was raped & tortured for 19 hours. Then her attacker set her place on fire while she was tied to the bed. She used the flames to burn through her bonds & escaped. He rushed the young lady as she was entering her apartment & started the ordeal then tried to eliminate the witness & the evidence of his crime when he was through.The NYPD has a sketch & a surveillance tape of the sorry excuse for protoplasm.
There are two feel good events occurring this weekend, a "Take back the night" & a "Speak Out" event. I doubt they'll be nearly as empowering as teaching the folks of the area how to use their newly acquired 12 gauge, but since it's NY that's perhaps hoping for too much. Not that Denver is any better.
I hope they catch this guy. Actually I'd hope some of the victim's family catch the guy first, but I'd settle for him being restrained even if it meant not nearly enough retribution.
As Bitter said in her post (the title of it actually) this is a good reason to have a firearm near you in your home. In this particular situation it may have not immediately helped since the attack started as she was going inside, but if the young lady could have made her way to a firearm she might have been able to protect herself. & being vigilant, especially as you're entering or leaving a building or vehicle is always a good idea. Condition white is dangerous in the real world.
Still the depravity of some people is truly unimaginable. I cannot imagine what the lady is going through now, or what her family & friends are feeling, but they all have my deepest sympathy.
