A Vince Gill tune. A very sad sweet Vince Gill tune. When my mother was dying I'd well up every time I heard it & to be honest it has been known to make people well up when no one they cared for was even ill.
Lt. Colonel John Dean "Jeff" Cooper (USMC-Ret.) has passed. I read the sad news over at The Anarchangel's place. He passed on peacefully at his home yesterday afternoon with his wife & daughter tending to him.
I never met the man. I know him only by reputation & his works. I sent a copy of The Post to him but I am uncertain if he received it before his passing. Still I think he would have understood. Some of his writings are available online & I will link to a few sources of them for your review. His words will provide a much better account of his life than mine would. It is not enough to say we have lost a good man with a rifle, but we have lost a great Rifleman.

I'll leave you with the words of Brother Gill:
"I know your life on earth was troubled
and only you could know the pain.
You weren't afraid to face the devil,
you were no stranger to the rain.
Go rest high on that mountain
son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
love for the Father and the Son.
Oh,how we cried the day you left us
we gathered round your grave to grieve.
I wish I could see the angels faces
when they hear your sweet voice sing.
Go rest high on that mountain
son, your work on earth is done.
Go to heaven a-shoutin'
love for the Father and the Son."
