NRA Pushes For More Gun Control Again

In this post called "Crazy" (where I argued against an expansion of mental health records in the NICS system) I pointed to The Liberty Zone & The War On Guns for more information on rumors that the NRA was talking with Democrats in congress to expand the use of mental health records for NICS purposes. Now Say Uncle is pointing to this Washington Post article saying the NRA is in active negotiations with Democrats in congress to push a Mccarthy bill that would give money to the states & provide penalties to the states regarding detailed reporting of mental health records.

The War On Guns has more thoughts on this deal in the making & urges you to oppose it. They only received a casual mention in the Washington Post article but Gun Owners of America is also opposed to the bill.

In this week's podcast Michael Bane (no direct link - just go to his front page & you'll see the player at the top) urges everyone to join the NRA as they're the "point man" to defend our Rights. He uses the argument that they're the biggest & most effective organization out there. I never disagreed with their size or their influence, just their direction. If they're the "point man" then I think we're all in trouble, unless we can get them to point away from gun control. So if you are an NRA member then might I suggest calling your NRA rep & raising as much hell with them as I hope you will with your congresscritters about this.

Be sure to read The War On Guns' latest post on this as well as my post called "Crazy" for reasons why an expansion of (or even the inclusion we currently have) mental health records should not be used to determine who exercises a constitutionally enumerated Right.
