New York New York

No; not the tune Sinatra is associated with (written by Kander & Ebb). I'm referring to the tune written by Bernstein, Comden & Green for the 1944 musical On The Town. The late Mel Torme did a very nice rendition of it & I thought it was an appropriate tune considering the chorus; "New York New York, it's a helluva town".

It's a helluva town alright. As in "straight from the bowels of".

This was brought to my attention via Of Arms & The Law:

"New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg today said, quote, 'New York is now the toughest place to get caught with an illegal gun."

So noted. Gun owners & their tourist dollars are not welcome in New York. No problem. I suspect they can get along without us just fine.

The law in question makes 3.5 years the minimum sentence for possessing an "illegal" gun instead of probation as it was until just a few days ago. I admit I'm not in a good mood so I'll not elaborate too much lest I say something I won't regret. But since I'm not welcome in NYC then I'll have to make it a point should I ever find myself next to Bloomberg (actually next to his bodyguards as I imagine the spineless git doesn't travel without others bearing arms on his behalf) I'll be sure to tell him things about his momma that'll make him cry even though he knows they ain't true.

How did that one song go? A Southern man don't need him around anyhow? I think it's just as applicable to Bloomberg & his ilk as it was to Young.

3.5 years minimum for simple possession of a constitutionally acknowledged instrument? When Jefferson wrote of man's tendency to suffer oppression for as long as possible before embracing change I cannot fathom that he thought the folks of NYC were that patient. But they'll suffer it. I won't but they will. & that's sad in & of itself.

So here's to New York, New York. If they don't start acting like it real soon then may posterity forget that they were ever part of America.

You or I may get 3 1/2 years, but how much time do you think that David Crosby would get?

I’ve taken a quick look at your postings, which are very interesting. Lots of material and ideas! Congrats on being so focused!

When Bloomberg and his anti-gun friends say they want to crack down on illegal guns, what they are really talking about is our guns, that is law abiding citizens' firearms as I argue in a post titled ""Illegal guns" are your guns" over at Crossroads.
