Angel Shamaya started KeepandbearArms.com & ran it through much adversity - both personal & relating to the site. He let it go last year as he figured it was the best thing to do for the cause. He's given a lot of time, energy, passion, cash & patience to try to help the pro-gun cause.
Now he needs yours.
I'm not up on all the details but it seems he was arrested for not complying with Michigan's gun registration laws. From a quick glance at that link it would seem that Michigan requires all handguns to be registered. (I will note that Michigan considers a pellet gun a firearm so if you have a pellet pistol they expect you to register it.)
David Codrea has more. Go there now & please do what ever you are able to for Shamaya. If you don't know him or of him & wonder why you should spend any effort on helping him out there's one reason why you should reconsider: that could have been you.
If you're here odds are you're pro-gun & not crazy about the idea of registration. From what I understand that was Shamaya's only offense - not registering his arms. If it was me I'd be in the same boat - well if I were alive at that point - as I'd be damned if I registered anything with anyone.
So if you know nothing of the man's work or what he's done for us then I ask you to consider helping him as you might think about helping me should I ever wind up in his situation.
As more becomes known I'll try to update you. But check in with The War On Guns as David will probably find things out before I will.

Posted by: Andy D at March 8, 2006 09:19 PMYes - he DID threaten his girlfriend's life. She's also the mother of their son (who was present when he assaulted her) and which directly resulted in the charges against him.
He was arrested with (15) unregisterd handguns, (11) illegal rifles, an assault rifle and 17,000 rounds of ammunition. For 'personal protection'? Yea, right.
And the comment about 'having to register pellet guns in Michigan' is 100% hogwash. NOT TRUE.

This is a matter of demonization in the media to garnish public support for a "lynching". If Mr. Shamaya possibly threatened his girlfriend and had access to a drawer full of steak knives, would that make this case as sensational? I doubt it.

Andy, do you know for a fact that Angel has committed aggression? Or are you making an uninformed assumption about his alleged guilt? Since I doubt you have the facts at your disposal, I would suggest your assumption is ignorant. Additionally, we as libertarians, DO NOT support anyone who would commit undue aggression against another. Ergo, since most of us seem to stand behind Angel 100 percent, since most of us appear to be rational human beings, who know the facts of the case, wouldn't it stand to reason that we, perhaps, have a damn good reason to do so?
