Defenseless Cesspool

D.C. for short.

Via Of Arms & Law the proposal to weaken the D.C. ban on self defense has been stripped from the bill it was attached to.

"Congress approved the District's 2006 budget yesterday, including more than $100 million in federal aid that Mayor Anthony A. Williams (D) requested for programs such as expanding school choice, paving bike trails and enhancing security.
But what made city leaders happiest was what didn't make it into the measure: a series of proposals that would have weakened or repealed the city's handgun ban."

So we're paying these bastards (we - yes we - you think congress gets money from some other source than us?) to enhance security yet they cling on to the one things that most undermines the security of its residents.

"This is a victory for home rule,' said Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D), the city's nonvoting House representative. 'The numerous people who have something to say about this have basically supported our right to decide our own fate through our own laws."

It's a victory for local tyranny. This petty tyrant cringes at the thought of a D.C. resident making their own damn choice as to arm themselves or not. "Right to decide" my ass. What she champions is a "Right to regulate & lord over her constituents". Nothing more.

It still baffles me that under the cry of "home rule" these slimy political types champion the use of force to suppress a basic & fundamental Right. Denver is no damned better, they just haven't went as far as D.C. has with it.

What's worse is that it seems the allegedly pro-gun republican majority can't seem to restore a basic Right to the folks in our own capitol. Reminds me of driving a car with a working cigarette lighter, power windows, sunroof & really nice sound system but for some reason reverse wasn't a working gear. Things are great till you go too far & need to back up. Then it sucks.
