Carolina On My Mind

Two guest bloggers have already posted & there'll be a few more to follow. The short version is:

I'm taking a vacation.

The long version is:

I am taking a vacation.

Heading to the Carolinas for a few weeks. Colorado is a beautiful state but one thing it seriously lacks is an ocean. Course they could install one from Denver eastwards to the Gulf of Mexico but that'd probably violate Denver's ability to Home Rule the elements.

& if you're wondering I will be driving. In fact I'm thinking of alternate routes so I can drive around Illinois. I usually just drive straight through but those asses have me so disgusted I don't even care to breath their air.

So if you're around a state I'll be driving through or somewhere in the Carolinas don't bother looking for me. I'm psuedononymous remember? lol But if you'd like to meet up (presuming my schedule permits) send me an e-mail.

One thing I will be trying to do is attend a shoot around Memorial Day weekend. It's being hosted by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association & Fred of Fred's M14 Stocks. You can read the details here. Whenever I see "500 yards & bring at least 400 rounds of ammo per day" I get all interested. lol

So many thanks to all the guest bloggers. Ya'll will be in much better hands than if I stayed around. But I might try to post here & there if anything interesting occurs &/or if I have some pics to share.

Update In The Extended Entry

I was looking for some links to add something & I came across this: Music From The Lost Provinces: Old-Time Stringbands From Ashe County, North Carolina & Vicinity 1927-1931 & this: Black Banjo Songsters of North Carolina and Virginia. When I listened to a few of the samples it seemed as familiar as what I was oringinally going to post. I also found this; Original Carolina Beach Music : Dance The Night Away & this: 25 Beach Music Classics & this: I Love Beach Music, Vol. 2. Those two types of music say so much about the Carolinas. They seem antiquated now & perhaps I'm just sentimental but hearing them brings back many pleasant memories.

What I started out to post was simply some lyrics from this album by James Taylor. So here they are:

"In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Karen she's a silver sun
You best walk her way and watch it shinin'
Watch her watch the mornin' come
A silver tear appearing now I'm cryin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind
There ain't no doubt it no ones mind
That loves the finest thing around
Whisper something warm and kind
And hey babe the sky's on fire, I'm Dyin'
Ain't I goin' to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Dark and silent last last night
I think I might have heard the highway calling
Geese in flight and dogs that bite
Signs that might be omens say I going, going
I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
With a holy host of others standing 'round me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me
If I'm up and gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine
Can't you just feel the moonshine
Maybe just like a friend of mine
It hit me from behind
Yes I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind"

I know just what he meant.
